Dinner To Go April 2011

Thanks to all of the parents, teachers and students who made our Dinner-to-Go fundraiser such a success! A special note of gratitude to our parent chefs – your offerings were bountiful and delicious. Thank you for turning out in the numbers you did and for providing our diners with a very special menu. As well, to our teacher-diners: Thank you for spending your break time at Dinner-to-Go and further supporting your school’s children with your dinner donations.

Multiculcural Event 2011

On Wednesday, February 16th the PSMS 278 community danced and sang together and at our annual Multicultural Celebration! Family, friends, and the school staff and teachers joined together in the Auditorium to cheer the children on as they expressed their love and appreciation for the things that make us different and unique. The presentations were first rate and included a Chinese Dragon, a Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., and (a yearly favorite) a middle-eastern traditional dance. The event was topped off with a delicious array of traditional foods to sample.

Movie Night – “Despicable Me”

Despicable Me Movie Night was great fun for everyone. We had over 180 participants!!! Parents and students worked and hung out together.

  • The concession provided fast service
  • crafts kept the kiddies busy until showtime
  • SEM students gave a comical performance
  • student council ushered and kept the school clean
  • the bake sale raised funds for Middle School tiger ticket rewards
  • and our 50/50 raffle winner went home with $108

Mark your calendar for our next community event at the Parent Teacher Conference “DINNER-to-GO” on Tuesday March 15th, 2011 cafe opens at 4:30pm. We look forward to seeing you all there.

BOLT Movie Night, 2010

Over 150 people showed up to watch BOLT in the school auditorium tonight. Fresh popcorn (right from own popcorn machines), hot dogs, refreshments were sold at the concession stand to help raise funds for the PTA and the school provided free apples. The kids had a great time socializing and even watched some of the movie…lol. We will definitely be doing this again in the near future, stay tuned. A big thank you to all the volunteers.

Dinner To Go, Nov 9, 2010

Our Annual (and Delicious!) “Dinner To Go” Event was held on Tuesday November 9th! The event coincided with our Annual Book Fair and Parent Teacher Conferences which made for an exciting (and busy) night at the school. Over 100 of our families sampled the mouth watering dishes donated by our Inwood community restaurants. Yum! Yum! Yum!

Career Day, Nov 4, 2010

We had a very exciting event at school yesterday. We had terrific guests talking about their careers. Students learned about life as an engineer, an actor, a fireman, even a comedian!

Back to School Night – 2010

Welcome Back! Well, it’s been a long, hot fun-filled summer, but we’re back for another exciting and rewarding year at PS/MS 278. On September 23rd our families came to the school to hear presentations from their children’s teachers, have a Q&A with Ms. Guido and to find out more about becoming part of our dynamic PTA. Check out the yummy desserts!

Halloween Parade 2010

Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh My! It’s that time of year again! On October 29th, the K-3 students got dressed up and paraded around the school grounds for our Annual Halloween Parade. The kids looked super duper in their costumes and all the teachers including Ms. Guido and Ms. Reyes joined in the fun as well!

Walk-A-Thon 2010

On October 21st the students, teachers and parents of PS/MS 278 gave back to their community in a big way! We all participated in our annual Walk-A-Thon to benefit Columbia Presbyterian’s Pediatric Cancer Center. Our school loves doing our part to support Dr,. Cairo and his staff and we are proud that the money we raised will go to help give kids with cancer the fighting chance they deserve.

Kindergarten Recital 2010

Our Kindergarten students made some beautiful music at their “Music and the Brain” Year End Recital on June 3rd and 4th. The children played keyboards and sang to the delight of their families – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Spring Fair 2010

On Saturday June 5th our 278 families, staff and teachers participated in the PTA’s “Recycling” Spring Fair 2010! Everyone enjoyed making and decorating boats, planting personal flower gardens , playing games like hop-scotch, tattoos and face painting, puppet making, delicious food and rocking out with the cool DJ! Many thanks to our amazing volunteers and staff for making this a truly memorable event!

Field Day 2010

On May 27th, 2010 the entire school participated in Field Day! Field Day is a friendly sports competition where the children participate in a three legged races, obstacle courses, a 50 yard dash, a shoe relay and many more fantastic activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“Dinner-to-Go” Fundraiser 2010

On Tuesday March 16th, during Parent Teacher Conference, the PTA held its second “Dinner-to-Go” fundraiser event in the cafeteria. For only $5 per adult ($3 for kids), everyone enjoyed a great meal and qualified to win a prize. What could be better? Dishes were donated by local restaurants and parents/volunteers. It was a great time and the food was outstanding.

A big thanks are in order to all the parents, teachers, and community businesses who volunteered their time, products and services. A total of 57 incredible volunteers helped make this event a success.

Over 200 adults/kids attended and $1050 was raised for the school! Proceeds will go towards the 8th Grade Graduation Breakfast and 5th Grade Moving Up ceremony.

The raffle winners were: Dr. Mateo ($50 gift certificate to the restaurant/vendor of choice), and Mr. Mynte ($20 gift card to La Estufa Restaurant).

“Take A Second Look” School Tour 2010

On Wednesday, February 24th, we invited our prospective parents back for a tour of our School wide Enrichment Program (SEM) program and for a Q&A session with Mrs. Guido. Over 50 families attended and the event was very well received by all! This event was wonderful opportunity to meet some of our new families and to show case our current students and their many varied interests. Mrs. Guido did a wonderful job or conveying what an active, diverse and rich community 278 is and we are all looking forward to welcoming our new families next year.

Title 1 Dance 2010

On Friday, February 5th the Title I Committee hosted the Family Dinner Dance in the School’s Cafeteria. What a blast! We started the evening by eating a delicious dinner which included 3 different kinds of rice, 4 different kinds of chicken, fresh fruit and salad and a selection of delicious desserts! Then, the DJ started to play and we all put on our dancing shoes and boogied the night away! Many thanks to our Title I Committee, the kitchen staff and all who attended for making this a celebration to remember!
